VSHN.timer #21: Continuous Learning

2. Dez 2019

Welcome to another VSHN.timer! Every Monday, 5 links related to Kubernetes, OpenShift, CI / CD, and DevOps; all stuff coming out of our own chat system, making us think, laugh, or simply work better.
This week we are going to showcase some cool examples of excellent learning resources created by and for the DevOps community.
1. Julia Evans, software developer and zine author in Montreal, has been producing excellent and instructive comic magazines for many years, explaining the inner working of different technologies. Among those, she recently explained how Docker containers work with overlayfs in her unique style, and we simply loved it. She has a whole section in her website about Containers and Kubernetes with great content!
2. Learning technologies with pictures and drawings is not new; remember the Head First book series by O’Reilly? It certainly redefined the way computer books were produced and designed. Following the same idea, Sudhakar Rayavaram published a fantastic article in Medium explaining Kubernetes in pictures! Ever felt the need to explain how K8s work? Well now you know.
3. We are in December again: time for sysadvent 2019! From the 1st to the 25th of December, every day a new article about the subject, since 2008. This year’s series started with an article about alerting with Prometheus.
4. The four types of technical documentation are Tutorials, How-to Guides, Discussions, and Reference. In the case of How-to Guides, we think Flowshare has the potential of becoming a very interesting resource in the future.
5. The tool of the week is kubethanos, whose task consists in killing „half of your pods randomly to engineer chaos in your preferred environment.“ A useful tool to test the solidity of our clusters, and we think it has the best name ever!
Do you know any other cool learning resources? What books or podcasts have you discovered lately? Get in touch with us through the form at the bottom of this page, and see you next week for another edition of VSHN.timer.
