What is Docker?
Docker is an open source software for isolating applications with container virtualization. Applications can be packed into an image with their respective dependencies and executed in a Docker container.
Docker allows containers to be handled like lightweight, modular virtual machines. Containers can be created, deployed, copied, and moved between environments with tremendous flexibility. This makes applications flexible and optimal for use in the cloud.
Unlike virtual servers, which contain an entire operating system (e.g. Linux) plus the applications, the containers contain only one application and the packages and modules required for it, so they are much smaller and therefore created, transferred and started much faster than entire servers.
