Die Smart Country Convention 2025 (#SCCON25) ist vorbei – und was für drei inspirierende Tage das waren. Vom 30. September bis 2. Oktober verwandelte sich das hub27 auf dem Messegelände Berlin in den zentralen Treffpunkt für alle, die die digitale Transformation von Staat und Verwaltung in Deutschland und darüber hinaus vorantreiben.

Weitere Ministerinnen, Minister und Branchenvertreter prägten das Programm – und machten die SCCON25 zu einem wichtigen Meilenstein auf dem Weg in die digitale Zukunft Deutschlands.

Tag 1: Eröffnung, Smart City Index und politische Impulse

Die Veranstaltung wurde offiziell unter der Schirmherrschaft des neuen Bundesministeriums für Digitalisierung und Staatsmodernisierung eröffnet. In einer Videobotschaft betonte Dr. Karsten Wildberger:
„Die Smart Country Convention ist längst der Hotspot für den digitalen Staat und unsere digitale Gesellschaft – ein Innovationshub, Think-Tank und Netzwerkplattform in einem.“

Ein Highlight des ersten Tages war die Verleihung des Smart City Index 2025, bei der München seinen ersten Platz als Deutschlands führende digitale Stadt erfolgreich verteidigen konnte.

Auf der Plaza Stage machten Staatssekretär Dr. Markus Richter und Bitkom-Geschäftsführer Dr. Bernhard Rohleder deutlich, dass die Digitalisierung mittlerweile im Zentrum der politischen Strategie angekommen ist – es geht nicht nur um Technologie, sondern um die Zukunftsfähigkeit des Staates.

Tag 2: Digitale Verwaltung im Fokus und Startup-Energie

Der zweite Tag stand im Zeichen von Führung, Inklusion und Innovation:

• Andrea Nahles eröffnete mit einer Keynote und betonte, dass digitale Verwaltung Chefsache sein muss – nicht nur eine technische Aufgabe für IT-Abteilungen
• Karin Prien rief zur digitalen Teilhabe auf und stellte den Zusammenhang zwischen Verwaltung, Bildung und Vertrauen in die Demokratie in den Mittelpunkt
• Am Abend wurde der Smart Country Startup Award verliehen – das Startup GovIntel konnte sich durchsetzen und zeigte, wie wichtig agile Innovationen für die Modernisierung der Verwaltung sind

Tag 3: Keynote und Ausblick

Der dritte Tag brachte einen der meist erwarteten Programmpunkte:

• Um 13:30 Uhr hielt Dr. Karsten Wildberger seine Abschluss-Keynote und skizzierte die Prioritäten für den digitalen Staat – von interoperablen Plattformen über sichere Infrastrukturen bis hin zu bürgernahen Services
• Zahlreiche Workshops und Sessions behandelten Themen wie den Germany-Stack, KI in der Verwaltung, Cybersicherheit und digitale Beteiligung
• Beim internationalen Matchmaking trafen über 140 Delegationen zu gezielten Gesprächen zusammen – ein klares Zeichen, dass digitale Verwaltung ein globales Thema ist

VSHN an der SCCON25: GA-Lotse im Mittelpunkt

Für VSHN war die SCCON25 die perfekte Gelegenheit, unsere Zusammenarbeit mit dem Gesundheitsamt Frankfurt am Main und dem Open-Source-Projekt GA-Lotse vorzustellen.

Am Stand von A1 Digital (Halle 25, Stand 100G) präsentierte Aarno Aukia, wie GA-Lotse das Gesundheitswesen digitalisiert:

• Entstanden während der COVID-19-Pandemie, um den Bedarf nach sicherer Kommunikation und skalierbarer Infrastruktur zu decken
• EU-gefördert und seit 2024 im Einsatz – unterstützt bereits mehrere Landkreise in Hessen mit modernen, effizienten digitalen Services
• Aufgebaut auf cloud-nativer Infrastruktur, Zero-Trust-Sicherheit und DevOps-Praktiken von VSHN
• Modular, souverän und Open Source – für langfristige Zuverlässigkeit, Datenschutz und Vertrauen

Ausblick

Die SCCON25 war mehr als eine Konferenz – sie war ein Schaufenster dafür, wie Deutschland und Europa den digitalen Staat gestalten. Für VSHN war sie eine Bestätigung unserer Mission: offene, sichere und cloud-native Managed Services bereitzustellen, die öffentliche Institutionen und Bürgerinnen und Bürger gleichermassen stärken.

Unsere nächsten Schritte:

• GA-Lotse auf weitere Regionen und Anwendungsbereiche ausweiten
• Partnerschaften mit Behörden, Regierungen und Technologieanbietern vertiefen

Erfolgsgeschichte: Gesundheitsamt Frankfurt & GA-Lotse

Eines der Leuchtturmprojekte von VSHN ist die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Gesundheitsamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main im Rahmen der Open-Source-Initiative GA-Lotse.

Highlights:

• Ausgangslage: Die COVID-19-Pandemie hat den Bedarf an sicherer Kommunikation, skalierbarer Infrastruktur und besseren digitalen Tools für Gesundheitsämter massiv beschleunigt
• GA-Lotse: Eine EU-geförderte, offene Plattform, die modulare, sichere und skalierbare digitale Infrastruktur für das öffentliche Gesundheitswesen bereitstellt
• Rolle von VSHN: 2024 hat VSHN eine öffentliche Ausschreibung gewonnen, um Plattform-Engineering und DevOps für GA-Lotse zu liefern – inklusive cloud-nativer Infrastruktur, Zero-Trust-Sicherheit und Managed Services

Heute, am 28. August 2025, fand an der Berner Fachhochschule die Kickoff-Veranstaltung des Netzwerks SDS – Souveräne Digitale Schweiz statt. Zahlreiche Vertreterinnen und Vertreter aus Politik, Verwaltung und Forschung gaben spannende Einblicke in aktuelle Projekte, Herausforderungen und Visionen auf dem Weg zu mehr digitaler Souveränität in der Schweiz. Auch unser Kollege Tobias Brunner war vor Ort und berichtete von einem inspirierenden Vormittag.

Politische und strategische Perspektiven

Nach der Begrüssung durch Matthias Stürmer und Pascal Stöckli vom Institut Public Sector Transformation (IPST) stellte Nationalrat Gerhard Andrey die politische Dimension der digitalen Souveränität vor. Deutlich wurde: Die Forderung nach Unabhängigkeit, Transparenz und Kontrolle über digitale Infrastrukturen ist breit abgestützt und gewinnt an Dringlichkeit.

Im Anschluss folgten Impulse aus dem Eidgenössischen Justiz- und Polizeidepartement (EJPD) durch Matthias Schmutz sowie von der Datenschutzbeauftragten des Kantons Zürich, Dominika Blonski, die die die Wichtigkeit von Governance und Sicherheitsarchitektur unterstrichen. Valentina Sulmoni vom Bundesamt für Cybersicherheit (BACS) zeigte auf, welchen Beitrag die Nationale Cyberstrategie zur Stärkung der digitalen Souveränität leistet.

Praxisbeispiele aus Bund und Städten

Besonders spannend waren auch die Einblicke in konkrete Umsetzungen:

• Erica Dubach Spiegler von der Bundeskanzlei präsentierte den Proof-of-Concept «Büroautomation mit Open-Source-Software» (BOSS), der auf Open-Source-Bürosoftware setzt.
• Werner Kipfer von der Stadt Zürich (OIZ) zeigte, wie die Verwaltung Open-Source-Lösungen evaluiert und pilotiert, um langfristig unabhängiger von proprietären Systemen zu werden.

Internationale Impulse aus Deutschland

Ein Highlight war der Besuch des deutschen Zentrums für Digitale Souveränität (ZenDiS). Geschäftsführer Alexander Pockrandt, Pamela Krosta-Hartl und Leonhard Kugler stellten die Schlüssellösungen openDesk und openCode vor. Dabei ging es nicht nur um Software, sondern auch um die Stärkung von Open-Source-Communities und grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit in Europa.

Vernetzung und Austausch

Die Veranstaltung endete mit einer Diskussionsrunde und einem Stehlunch – eine wertvolle Gelegenheit für die Teilnehmenden, Fragen zu stellen und neue Kontakte zu knüpfen. Tobias berichtete von einer inspirierenden Atmosphäre und einem klaren Signal: Digitale Souveränität ist in der Schweiz auf dem Weg von der Vision zur konkreten Umsetzung.

Offizieller Rückblick des Netzwerks SDS

Das Netzwerk SDS selbst zieht ein sehr positives Fazit: Über 200 Teilnehmende haben den Kickoff-Event in Bern und online verfolgt. Ein wichtiges Ergebnis war die Unterzeichnung eines Letter of Intent zwischen dem Institut Public Sector Transformation (IPST) der Berner Fachhochschule und dem deutschen ZenDiS. Gemeinsam wollen die beiden Institutionen in Zukunft beim openDesk-Angebot, beim OSS Directory und beim geplanten Souveränitätscheck eng kooperieren.

Was bedeutet SDS?

Nachfolgend die offizielle Definition des Netzwerk SDS – Souveräne Digitale Schweiz: «Digitale Souveränität eines Staates oder einer Organisation umfasst zwingend die vollständige Kontrolle über gespeicherte und verarbeitete Daten sowie die unabhängige Entscheidung darüber, wer darauf zugreifen darf. Was für ein Abend! Am Mittwoch, 25. Juni 2025, trafen sich 50 DevOps-Begeisterte, Platform Engineers und Tech-Enthusiast:innen in den Zühlke-Räumen in Schlieren zum DevOps Meetup. Gemeinsam präsentierten wir den DevOps in Switzerland Report 2025 – ein voller Erfolg.

🧩 Erster Talk: Simplicity – the key to survival for a 3‑person DevOps Team

Urs Enzler startete in den Abend mit spannenden Einblicken aus seinem kleinen, aber äusserst effektiven DevOps-Team: „Simplicity“ ist bei ihnen kein Buzzword, sondern Überlebensstrategie. Sie entwickeln und betreiben eine Zeiterfassungs-App seit fast zehn Jahren – alles mit nur drei Entwickler:innen und zwei Business-Fachpersonen. Um das zu stemmen, haben sie Konsequenzen gezogen:

• Radikale Vereinfachung aller Prozesse – von Architektur, Kommunikation, Testing bis Monitoring.
• Minimales Tooling – jede Neuerung wird auf den Prüfstand gestellt und nur bei echtem Mehrwert übernommen.
• Kurze Feedback-Zyklen – agil und kontinuierlich. Dadurch bleiben sie flexibel und anpassungsfähig.

Das Ergebnis? Ein wartungsarmes System und ein Team, das klare Entscheidungswege hat – dank Einfachheit auf ganzer Linie.

📊 Zweiter Talk & DevOps Report-Launch

Patrick Mathers und Romano Roth präsentierten dann die Ergebnisse der „DevOps in Switzerland 2025“-Umfrage. Sie zeigten:

• Eine breite Fortschrittskurve bei Automatisierung, Cloud‑Strategien und natürlich AI
• Wachsende Bedeutung von Platform Engineering und Developer Experience
• Herausforderungen bei Legacy‑Migrationsprojekten und Wandel in der Unternehmenskultur

Diese Session beleuchtete das Spannungsfeld zwischen lokaler Kontrolle und globaler Technologieabhängigkeit – und wie die Schweiz mit offenen Standards, resilienter Infrastruktur und politischem Gestaltungswillen ihre digitale Zukunft sichern kann.

Im Panel wurde diskutiert, wie Unternehmen, Politik und Gesellschaft gemeinsam Lösungen für digitale Unabhängigkeit entwickeln können – und wie realistisch es ist, Schweizer Alternativen zu globalen Plattformen zu etablieren.

Diese Session zeigte eindrücklich, wie die Schweiz digitale Selbstbestimmung gestalten kann – im Spannungsfeld zwischen regulatorischen Anforderungen, technischer Souveränität und globalem Wettbewerb.

Zwar kann die Schweiz – ebenso wie Europa als Ganzes – in den nächsten 5 bis 10 Jahren kaum mit den Hyperscaler-Clouds oder der globalen Hardware-, Netzwerk- und Chipproduktion konkurrieren. Doch mit unseren Talenten, unserer Innovationskraft und gezielter Zusammenarbeit können wir technologische Nischen besetzen und echte Alternativen schaffen.

Ein starkes Bild dazu brachte Gerhard Andrey: Airbus als europäische Antwort auf die Marktmacht von Boeing – ein Beweis dafür, dass auch grosse Visionen aus Kooperation entstehen können.

Besonders stolz waren wir auf den Cloud Native Track, der von unserem Co-Founder Aarno Aukia (VSHN) geleitet wurde – mit einem starken Programm, das aktuelle Herausforderungen und echte Lösungen in der Praxis zeigte.

Am 12. Juni 2025 traf sich die Schweizer Cloud-Native-Community im SOHO / Abaton Zürich zur Cloud Native Zürich 2025 – und was war das für ein toller Tag! Spannende Talks und inspirierendes Networking

Von den Eröffnungs-Keynotes bis zu den letzten Sessions bot Cloud Native Zürich ein vielfältiges Programm mit technischen Deep Dives, Use Cases aus der Praxis und Blicken in die Zukunft. Ein echtes Highlight war die abschliessende Keynote „From Voyager to JWST: The Evolution from Data-Poor to Data-Driven Exploration“ von Astrophysiker Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, Professor für Weltraumwissenschaft und -technologie ETH Zürich Space und ehemaliger Wissenschaftsdirektor der NASA, die nicht nur inspiriert, sondern auch zum Nachdenken angeregt hat.

What a week! KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2025 is officially in the books, and what a fantastic experience it was for our VSHNeers Tobias & Aarno. Hosted this year in vibrant London from April 1 – 4, the conference once again brought together thousands of passionate professionals from the cloud native ecosystem – and we’re excited to share our highlights with you.

A Week Full of Conversations, Community & Cloud Native Innovation

This year’s KubeCon was packed with energy, insight, and inspiration. From the first keynote to the last hallway conversation, it was clear that the momentum behind the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) community is stronger than ever.

At VSHN, we had the privilege of spending the week immersed in a sea of contributors, maintainers, customers, partners, and curious newcomers. We loved catching up with old friends and meeting new faces, all driven by a shared enthusiasm for open source technologies, Kubernetes, and the evolving cloud native landscape.

As a CNCF member, and with Servala, APPUiO and K8up being part of this growing ecosystem, it felt especially rewarding to see how deeply our products resonate with the community.

One of the biggest highlights for us was the overwhelming response to Servala, our new open platform for deploying and managing cloud native services and applications. Throughout the week, we showcased Servala in conversations and demos – and the feedback was incredible.

Representing VSHN on the Ground

K8up by VSHN is a CNCF Sandbox Project

One of our key contributions is K8up, our Kubernetes backup operator, which is a CNCF Sandbox Project. We’re excited to see more and more adopters and contributors join the project – a great example of how open collaboration leads to better, more resilient tools for everyone.

DevOpsDays Zurich 2025, held on March 12-13 2025 at the Alte Kaserne Winterthur, brought together 250 DevOps enthusiasts for two days of insightful talks, interactive workshops, and collaborative open spaces.

The conference commenced with a keynote by Dr. Marc Schuh, who shared his experience in applying artificial intelligence to analyze canoe techniques, highlighting the challenges and successes of integrating AI into sports analytics.

Lena Fuhrimann’s session on „Level Up Your Serverless Game“ delved into the evolution of serverless architectures, offering practical advice on optimizing AWS Lambda functions and addressing common challenges such as IAM permission issues.

Christina Kraus discussed building internal platforms to enhance developer experience, emphasizing the importance of clear responsibility matrices like RA(S)CI to reduce frustration among teams.

Daniel Raniz Raneland presented „Pipeline Patterns and Antipatterns,“ providing strategies to improve CI/CD pipeline efficiency, such as optimizing task sequences and implementing caching mechanisms.

Robert Lehmann from Google showcased the development of global observability dashboards, detailing the complexities of monitoring extensive internal services and the solutions implemented to achieve effective oversight.

The event also featured Ignite talks, including Sandra Czopek’s engaging session on preventing burnout and fostering motivation, using relatable analogies to emphasize the importance of well-being in the tech industry.

Interactive workshops offered hands-on experiences, such as building secure container images, aligning decentralized architecture decisions through user needs mapping, and domain-driven refactoring to manage legacy code.

The evening event at the Caribbean Pearl provided attendees with opportunities to network, discuss insights from the day’s sessions, and strengthen community bonds.
