VSHN.timer #186: Containerization News

12. Jun 2023

Welcome to another VSHN.timer! Every Monday, 5 links related to Kubernetes, OpenShift, CI / CD, and DevOps; all stuff coming out of our own chat system, making us think, laugh, or simply work better.

This week we’re going to talk about the latest news around containers.

1. A recent Microsoft threat report covered a threat actor employing living off the land (LOTL) techniques to evade detection while targeting critical infrastructure. But what is LOTL? A vulnerability targeting containers, among other pieces of infrastructure.

2. Podman 4.5 was released a few weeks ago, with many new features including improvements to podman kube and Quadlet, Netavark plugin support, new commands, and performance improvements in podman images.

3. Podman Desktop 1.0 was released during the recent Red Hat Summit; it supports managing multiple containers, natively integrates with Kubernetes, supports various enterprise features, and can be easily extended.

4. The AWS Well-Architected Framework helps you understand the pros and cons of decisions you make while building systems on AWS. The Container Build Lens focus specifically on container design and build processes.

5. Kuasar is an efficient container runtime that provides cloud-native, all-scenario container solutions by supporting multiple sandbox techniques. Written in Rust, it offers a standard sandbox abstraction based on the sandbox API.

Still using Docker? Have you tried Kuasar yet? What are your preferred techniques to build efficient and lean containers? Get in touch with us, and see you next week for another edition of VSHN.timer.
