During this time frame we were able to scale our application from a simple “classic” web application setup to a robust enterprise-level, highly-available, clustered system based on a microservice architecture and the Kubernetes orchestration. Hello Giles, can you briefly explain what you do at esurance?

Insurance for SMEs is complicated, but necessary. Digital processes and products make life easier for buyers and sellers of insurance. But that is not enough. It is crucial to be in the right place at the right time with it and to offer users easy access to competent support at the decisive moment.

That’s why esurance is developing and operating a configurable insurance distribution platform that connects small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), insurance providers, business application vendors and brokers. By creating a digital entry into the insurance market and making it as easy as possible to connect online and offline, we enable efficient sales and consulting processes for smart insurance solutions.

Industry solutions for ICT and catering companies are already available on the market via the esurance distribution platform. The products can be taken out online – or with the support of experts who answer questions by phone, chat or video call.

These insurances are offered in cooperation with industry associations and offer industry-specific products at convincing conditions, even for small companies and startups.

Other insurance solutions will also be available via the platform in the future. In addition, esurance’s platform technology is also used by partners as a white label solution.

What is your role at esurance?

I am responsible for product development in the role of CPO. Since the foundation, in 2013.

What challenges did you face with your application and infrastructure before we started working together?

To make a long story short: stability, security, scalability :-).

How did you hear about VSHN and why did you choose APPUiO as your container platform?

Thomas Rietmann, back then at Sobrado Software, has highly recommended you.

What have we achieved together and how do we currently support you?

We’ve been working with VSHN for over 4 years. What works well at/with VSHN?

VSHN has a very strong DevOPS expertise. Their advice has always been on point and had a great value. VSHN has a wide array of supported out-of-the-box solutions, so most of the services we needed could be provided fast and with a great quality.

Where can we improve?

There are limitations in flexibility when working with an external provider especially when it comes to urgent topics or solutions that could not be provided out-of-the-box. But those limitations are not critical for us at this stage.

Why or for what would you recommend us?

We can recommend VSHN as a very competent partner, who shows a great attention to details. They take a proactive role in finding solutions together which brings a great value and creates trust.
